Congratulations to Dr Camille Cohen on being awarded an ERC Starting Grant!
A nephrologist at Bichat Hospital, a researcher at the CRI – Centre for Research on Inflammation and coordinator of the INFIRE FHU, Camille has just been awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant for her project ‘InFibrosis – Early Inflammation in Fibrotic Niches of Chronic Kidney Disease”.
🔬 This project focuses on a major issue in chronic kidney disease: renal fibrosis, a process common to many kidney diseases which gradually leads to irreversible loss of kidney function.
Camille’s hypothesis is that the progression of fibrosis does not result from uniform damage to the kidney, but from the emergence of ‘fibrotic niches’ – localised areas where interactions between inflammatory cells and renal tissue cells establish themselves at an early stage. The project will seek to understand how this early inflammation arises, how it promotes the development of fibrosis, and how these interactions could be targeted to predict and prevent the progression of chronic kidney disease.
This prestigious award provides funding of 1.5 million euros over five years, enabling Camille to expand her team and develop this ambitious research programme./
