Some rare diseases, grouped under the term of monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance (MGRS), are characterized by the development of kidney lesions induced by the deposition of monoclonal immunoglobulins in different structures of the kidney.
My lab, funded by the “Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale, amorcage de jeunes équipes”, is focused on the understanding of the mechanisms of renal lesions development downstream of monoclonal immunoglobulins depositions.
We will combine cutting-edge technologies, such as spatial transcriptomics, iPS derived kidney organoids and mouse models to decipher these mechanisms. Our first hypothesis will be that monoclonal immunoglobulins will trigger cellular senescence after being deposited in the kidney, and that the senescent cells will trigger the lesion development process.
In a longer-term horizon, we plan to extend our research to more frequent kidney diseases, such as diabetic nephropathy, as the lesions observed in diabetic nephropathy are very close to that observed in some MGRS.
